We all know that more “likes” on Facebook means better value for our Facebook business pages. In the never ending quest for more likes, it’s tempting to run a contest, but before you do, you need to know that Facebook has a few rules for such things. Some are obvious (“you are responsible for the lawful operation of that promotion…”) and some are a little less obvious (“Acknowledgement that the promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook”).
One trespass that is frequently made is asking people to share something from your page on their Timeline in exchange for being entered in a drawing. It might look a little something like this:
“SHARE our post on your Timeline for your chance to WIN one of theses fake stockings filled with GOLD BULLION!!!”
If you get caught, I hear Mark Zuckerberg will come and personally roll the trees in your yard.
There are more rules to keep in mind so you can live and promote in harmony with the Facebook powers that be. For more information on Facebook promotions, take a look at their Page Guidelines under section III.E
